Are You Ever Afraid?

Filed under: Friday Club - Carrie Duffy @ 8:18

In the last few weeks you’ve probably seen lots of things in shops, houses and maybe in school that are scary - things to do with Halloween.  It’s not nice to get scared or be afraid is it?  Maybe those Halloween things didn’t scare you, but perhaps you’re afraid of the dark, or of being left on your own, or of spiders …

We all have things that make us afraid or scared.  But what does God’s book the Bible say about being afraid?  1 John 4:18 says, “Where God’s love is, there is no fear.”

I want you to read this story about a boy called Tom, and remember it when you next feel scared about something.

Friday Club and Sunday School

Filed under: Friday Club - Carrie Duffy @ 10:20

Sunday School

Firstly I want to say a big WELL DONE to all the children who are so quickly learning the Books of the Bible. By the time you read this hopefully everyone will be able to say all the way from Genesis to Job, that’s 18 books… we are just about half way through the Old Testament. Don’t forget keep practising.

We have settled back now into Sunday school and Bible class and numbers are always increasing. Please pray for the Sunday School teachers as they prepare each week and also as they teach. Kids … listen well … what you learn in Sunday School you will remember until you are old. Some of the older people in our church never got to go to Sunday school when they were kids and they wished they had so they could have heard all the amazing stories from the Bible and how much God loved them.

New School Year, New Things

Filed under: Friday Club - Carrie Duffy @ 7:27

Attention Kidz!

Can you believe it, another school year has come and gone and summer holidays are over?  So, are you children looking forward to being back at school, learning new things, making new friends, getting to know new teachers?

Have you got new books, maybe a new bag, new soccer/football boots, a new school uniform?  There are so many NEW things happening at the start of a new school year.

We have lots of new things happening here at church too.  Some of you will have started in a new Sunday school class with new teachers; some teachers may be moving groups as well.

I want to let you know of some of the new things planned for this school year …

Friday Club 2009 Term Report

Filed under: Friday Club - Carrie Duffy @ 7:24

By the time you read this, Friday Club will have finished its programme for the 2008/09 year and will, God willing, recommence in September after the summer holidays. It has been a tiring but good year as we have seen numbers steadily rising from 15+ to up to 40 children some weeks.

We usually have around 35 children coming to the Cloughleigh Community Centre each Friday from 6.30 – 7.30 (although they seem to arrive at the door wanting to come in as soon as they see the leaders arriving, which could be before 6pm!). They range in age from 3-14 and nearly all the kids come from the estate.

Going from Kids to Teenz

Filed under: Friday Club - George @ 11:19

Over the last two years the Youth and Children’s ministries within our church have grown dramatically - VIA from 10ish Teens to about 20 teens and Friday Club from 20 to 40 children. While both ministries have been challenging, both have been fruitful and it has been a blessing to see them grow.

Friday Club in Cloughleigh

Filed under: Friday Club - Matthy @ 22:08

Today we had a guest speaker (the scheduled speaker was indisposed): Vincent was here! It was great to have him and he introduced a new way of bringing the message to the kids: by art! Although, as Vincent kept mentioning, he was not only bold (like any other kid) in school, but also not very successful when it came to the subject of art or orthography.

Friday Club in Cloughleigh

Filed under: Friday Club - Matthy @ 14:06

We had only a few helpers tonight, so it was tough going. It took us about 5 Minutes to get the crowd quite for Margaret’s story. And then she prayed for that mother who had died and there were even some requests for more prayers for people in the area.

Friday Club Reporting

Filed under: Friday Club - Matthy @ 20:25

"Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I say to you that in Heaven their angels always behold the face of My Father in Heaven. For the Son of man has come to save that which was lost."  Mt 18:10-11

Tonight was different. Since it was raining outside, there was little trouble at the door and the turnout was expectedly a bit lower, but not as much as I thought. I think there were still at least 30 kids, which is higher than the average in earlier times, when you look at Tricia’s report after the last summer, where she expected 20-25 Kids to come for the new term!

Friday Club Report

Filed under: Friday Club - Matthy @ 21:30

Tonight, we had another bulk of 40 kids to cater for. It’s just amazing how eager they always are to come - even when we arrive 30 minutes early to set up the place, they are already asking about getting in!

Friday Club Starts Again!

Filed under: Friday Club - Administrator @ 15:23

By Tricia

From Early Beginnings

Originally a home Sunday school in Cloughleigh, this ministry was started in 1983 by an American missionary couple called Jim and Jean McCarthy. As the church grew the Sunday school was changed to a Friday evening, and was named “The Friday Club” and the name remains today! Invitations were extended to neighbours’ children and thus Friday Club became an outreach to non-believers as well as for our church children. As numbers increased, the Club moved to the newly built hall in Cloughleigh, where it is still held to this day!
