Trip to South Africa
From 3rd to 16th August a small team comprising David and Avril Wade, James O’Callaghan (17), René Kuhs (17), Pat Morrissey and Padraic Morrissey (17), travelled over 9500 kilometres to Cape Town in South Africa to connect with a small group of local believers. Our mission was to help them to reach out into their community and be available for service as they saw fit.
Until we arrived we were not fully sure what lay ahead. For me the goal was to give our 3 young men an opportunity to serve and to understand and appreciate what we in the developed world really have. I believe we achieved this goal and exceeded those of the people in Ocean View that we were supporting.
Ocean View is an informal settlement - a shanty town - 30,000 people in a very small area living in shacks built of scrap wood with tin roofs. Cedric (our host) and his family work for All Nations, the Host Organisation and live in Ocean View with a house half-built. Our small team gave them opportunity to open new doors and meet the people living around them.
