New School Year, New Things
Attention Kidz!
Can you believe it, another school year has come and gone and summer holidays are over? So, are you children looking forward to being back at school, learning new things, making new friends, getting to know new teachers?
Have you got new books, maybe a new bag, new soccer/football boots, a new school uniform? There are so many NEW things happening at the start of a new school year.
We have lots of new things happening here at church too. Some of you will have started in a new Sunday school class with new teachers; some teachers may be moving groups as well.
I want to let you know of some of the new things planned for this school year …
Firstly, all of us (including the adults) are going to learn by heart ALL 66 books of the Bible! Louis has been very busy making lots of wooden books in a bookcase to help us. You may still think you can’t do it, but with God’s help and by learning to sing “The Books of the Bible” song, I am sure that by the end of January we will all be able to recite the books in the right order. (There will be a prize for everyone that can!)
We are also planning new things for Friday Club. We are excited about the coming year, and know that excitement is from Him, because it is not a feeling I would normally have when thinking about Club!
We want to encourage the children to start coming on a more regular basis, so we will be having team charts, where the kids can gain/lose points for their team and be rewarded for good attendance, behaviour, etc. We will also be changing the teaching material to try and make it more relevant to the children. Although it will mean more work for the leaders to do, kids will be split into 2 age groups once singing is finished which will, God willing, be more beneficial to the children.
Attention Grown-ups
We plan to meet the first Sunday every month, straight after Family Service, to pray specifically for the work of Friday Club and the children involved. I want to encourage those who I know faithfully pray for this work, to join us on these dates as we ask God to reach the community in Cloughleigh. All are welcome to join us.
As mentioned before, we really do need more helpers at Friday Club. You don’t need to be able to teach or have experience working with children, just having a heart willing to serve is enough!
We especially need men who would be willing to give an hour every Friday evening from 6.30 – 7.30, just to be there. If you think you could only do it once or twice a month that’s okay too.
Please speak to Grace or me if you think you’d like to help in some way - or just come one Friday and see what we do. It may be something you’ve never thought of before but often God teaches us many new things when we step out of our comfort zone to serve Him in a new way.
